How This Tangerine Orchid & John Sinclair NFT Music Collaboration Came To Be

So, how did this NFT Music collaboration between Tangerine Orchid and John Sinclair begin? Easy! Tangerine Orchid Co-Founder Jair-Rohm Parker Wells and John Sinclair go way back. They shared a flat in London, performed countless concerts together and became very good friends over the decades. So when Jair-Rohm approached John Sinclair about creating a series of exclusive NFTS featuring unreleased John Sinclair material it was a no-brainer. Before Jair-Rohm had even finished explaining what it was, John said YES! Of course he would. The man is as fearless at the beginning of his 80’s as he was in the 1960’s in his 20’s when he began the fight for the right to smoke a doobie and not be strip searched and thrown in jail. So, today, we want to educate you on why John Sinclair is important to you as a card carrying weed smoker and tell you a little about the guy that started it all.

Involved In 1960’s Counterculture & Activism

In the mid 1960’s John Sinclair managed Detroit rock band MC5 who with their politically charged music paired perfectly with John Sinclair’s radicalization inclinations. In 1968, while still working with MC5, he became a founding member of the White Panther Party, a militant anti-racist socialist group that was a counterpart to and supported The Black Panthers.

Then, in 1969, our story really begins. After offering two joints to an undercover female narcotics officer, John Sinclair was sentenced to ten years in prison. TEN YEARS!! The sentence was harsh to say the least and started a movement led by prominent figures and celebrities such as Abbie Hoffman, John Lennon and Yoko Ono. John Sinclair served two years and was freed in December 1971.

Some Baby Boomers will remember the famous song by John Lennon “John Sinclair” written for the occasion.
