3 MISTAKES YOU NEED TO MAKE AS AN NFT MUSICIAN OR CRYPTO ARTIST
They say “Fortune Favors the Brave”, in fact, that saying has become sort of a catch phrase in the cryptocurrency world. But I think the same thing applies to potential Crypto Artists and NFT Musicians when it comes to taking the leap into making NFT Music & Crypto Art.

Here is the thing. Sometimes the best art comes from our mistakes, and artists, of all people can be totally afraid to make them, totally afraid to be raw and vulnerable in their craft, totally afraid to try something new and unproven. But, understand this: art that makes an impact is not always perfectly polished and carefully curated to fit into previous molds of what we were told is artistic perfection.

Art is supposed to be uncomfortable, bizarre, trailblazing and hopefully, confuse, delight and enlighten all at the same time. Otherwise, it’s just bad landscape art you picked up at the mall that no one even notices hanging over your sofa.

3 MISTAKES YOU NEED TO MAKE AS AN NFT MUSICIAN OR CRYPTO ARTIST
So what are 3 mistakes you NEED to make to be the best artist YOU can be and have the courage to branch out into new art forms like NFT Music & Crypto Art?
1. Compare yourself to others until you finally realize how pointless it is!
- Here is the thing. You will never achieve greatness if you don’t make this “mistake”. I mean in fact, IS it really mistake? I would say ONLY IF you STAY in that comparison for the entirety of your career. Finding artists you admire and learning from the things they do is actually an essential part of becoming an artist. We all start off as artists being inspired by other artists. We try out things they do until our own style begins to emerge. When it does we have two choices: Resist it and believe it’s wrong or unleash it, which is ultimately way scarier, but something that must be done to achieve your personal greatness.
- Once you realize that you have spent much too long in this comparison, don’t be afraid to get a little mad about it, then take a deep breath, let it go and get to fearlessly expressing your truth!

NFT Artists: Internal Creative Compass VS Outside Voices
2. You drive yourself bananas (no offense to bananas) looking for validation from others to confirm that your art is good enough or that you have “made it”.
- When we are new at anything, it can be really assuring to get validation from others, like teachers and mentors that we are on the right track. And if you have a teacher or mentor that helps you learn to listen to your inner artist voice and follow your own creative compass no matter what response you get from the outside world, you are far ahead of the curve than most.
- The problem comes when you stick to this idea of “making it”. Art and music is a process. You “make it” when validation comes from within as you finish each piece with the satisfaction that you have given a voice to a true part of yourself.
- And then you move on to the next piece.
- Congratulations! Now you have realized that your art evolves as you do and no one can really tell you where you are in the process. And in my opinion, that is when you have “made it”.

NFT Artists & Perfection: The Creativity Killer
3. You expect things to be perfect at your first attempt.
- We know that perfection is a killer of creativity, but how often does perfectionism still haunt us on the down low?
- Now seeking excellence is far different from seeking perfection and that is where you should be headed as a new NFT Musician or Crypto Artist.
- Here is the thing, when you finally realize how much great material you just created from your “mistakes” and that every mistake led you to your final product or a whole bunch of products, you might be onto something.
- There are many artists that have stumbled on their signature style by making a “mistake”. Years ago I played a gig with the guitar player who was Andy Gibb’s musical director. He told me a story of how the Bee-Gees stumbled on their signature falsetto sound when they were in the recording studio, recording a song in a regular voice and it just wasn’t working. One of the brothers started singing the song falsetto on a whim and suddenly the Bee-Gees “sound” was born.
- Possibly an even better example is when Louis Armstrong, legendary trumpet player and Jazz vocalist, was recording a song with a full band and the music pages blew off the music stand. Instead of stopping to pick up, mid melody, he started scatting, improvising. And so, scatting as we know it in Jazz became a thing.
