Let’s take a look back to where we started as musicians. Sound recording began in 1877 and created a way for musicians to expand, but for better or worse and often worse, the music industry sprung up around that technology, took control of that technology and created an entire structure around it to “assist” the musician in expanding their reach. From the first wax productions to streaming services like Spotify, technological advancements have shaped how music is made, performed, preserved, distributed and consumed by the customer. But, not always in a fair way to the artist.
